From Fruit Trees to Furnaces - A history of the Worcestershire Constabulary

The strange title alludes to the area between the fertile soils of the Worcestershire countryside, and the industrial area of the Black Country.
Retired policeman Bob Pooler writes about policing in Worcestershire 1840 to 1967. Writing the book took him a long time, but the result is well worth it.
"It took me 12 years to research the book from the vast amount of material available," he said.
The book itself is about local and social history, but it contains a lot of gems about policing in Worcestershire, including the as yet still unsolved murder of Florrie Porter in Bromsgrove in October 1944, who was found by two boys in Lickey End School. Another unsolved murder was the "Bella mystery" - the previous year, when two boys found a skeleton wedged in a tree.
