New Exhibition Opens

New Exhibition Opens - Symphony No. 2 in E Flat, Op. 63

May 2011 sees the centenary of the first performance of one of Elgar’s very greatest achievements, his Symphony No. 2 in E flat, Op.63.  The soundscape is as luxuriant as anything he ever wrote, and the music is as personal – the second part of the trio of hyper-personal works which form his musical autobiography – the Violin Concerto, Symphony No. 2 and the Music Makers.

Honours for Elgar Museum Directors

Two of the Elgar Birthplace Museum’s directors have much to be proud of.

On 16 May our Chairman, Peter Ainsworth, was announced as the UK Chair of the Big Lottery Fund.  Peter has been Chairman of the Elgar Foundation, the Charity which runs the Museum, for the past six years and takes on this new role alongside his existing charity commitments which include the position of Chairman of Plantlife International.

Elgar conducts his own music on CD

The Elgar Birthplace Museum is delighted to be able to make available a unique collection of recordings - Elgar conducting his own music from the 1920s and 1930s; a super-budget 9 CD box set with a price of only £21.95, less than £2.50 per disc.

Events

Each year the Museum runs a programme of special events in the beautiful surroundings of Broadheath. The programme brings together talks, recitals and entertainment for music lovers as well as for visitors who just want to find out a little more about the life and times in which Elgar lived.

Birthday Concert A Success

We celebrated Elgar's 154th birthday with our annual Birthday Concert.

Rising star pianist Di Xiao enthralled the audience with a lovely and varied programme on 2nd June 2011 including Beethoven, Debussy, Chinese folk songs, and of course, Elgar!
